Julie and Friends

I don’t blog any pithy posts, have any special interest in cooking, or take pictures. It seems like anyone with any creativity is doing such things lately and has a blog where they talk about their book or display their latest creative project.  I am impressed with these folks!  I have actually pondered dusting off my cookware and taking a photography class.

I wonder, “What do I do that would interest anyone on the planet?”  I “ventriloquize,” as one recent inquiring host put it! Ventriloquism…people often stumble at pronouncing it, much less spelling it.  They also get it mixed up with other “V” words.  (That letter is so ignored…I feel sorry for the letter “V.”  Last year a show was advertised simply as “V” for Visitors, aka aliens, which are just as peculiar to everyone as ventriloquists.)  Let’s face it:  between crude TV ventriloquists and movies about creepy little killer dummies, it’s no wonder ventriloquism can sometimes get a bad rap!  Many of us vents are still trying to rise above all the damage that “Chucky” kid did back in the 70s!

Ok, moving on . . . I speak without moving my lips for two characters: BC Homes and Ms. Mildred.  I have been doing this most of my life – talking to myself, that is, which, by the way, is happening more frequently as I find myself doing this without either of my two characters around!  (Sigh…)  I truly enjoy sharing BC and Ms. Mildred with audiences.  It is a unique, fun and gratifying means to connect with people.  I feel the distinctiveness and humor of it all is part of God’s plan to share His amazing grace in and through me.

God says I am fearfully and wonderfully made. (Ps. 139:14)  He rejoices over us (Isaiah 62:5), delights in us (Is. 62:4) and our name is inscribed in the palm of His hand.  He pays attention to us!  Perhaps we should stop trying to reinvent who the God of the universe designed us to be.

Perhaps we should stop comparing ourselves with others.

Perhaps we should stop trying to be someone else that we admire.

Perhaps we should embrace our individuality and praise God for our unique differences!

I hope we meet soon – I’ll introduce you to my multiple personalities!

Julie…and gang!
